There are times where I get links in my inbox from artists and labels that I haven’t heard about or can’t remember signing up for newsletters, etc… N-Qiaand their”Qia songs”release is one such release where I can vaguely remember signing up to the net label that released it, Italian net label La bèl records. N-qia are a Tokyo based duo of Nozomi (vocals) and Takma (programming) and their short 4 track 18 minute Ep”Qia Songs”is a nice little treat. Starting off with “Frosty” which mixes Jazz percussion classical/flamenco guitar with cute Japanese vocals before the glitches and loops start kicking in (reminding me of Nobukazu Takemura) and ends quite far removed from the beginning. “Dust” has some sax, vocals, piano, clicks and cuts and glitches. “Wander” would sit well on the Raster Noton catalogue again with a jazz element mixed with synth glitch and some almost break beat like minimal percussion. “Fullmoon” is the more frantic of the tracks on the EP with chimes, various layers of sound – percussion, loops, vocals, ambiance and comes across as the most IDM like of the tracks on this EP. As I said before it’s a nice treat of an ep and you should also check out their “Sweet Sequence” ep on Portuguese net label MIMI. You can pick this up from La bèl

This is the second issue (after Neeva`s one) coming out from the Italy-based La bèl records which does have put itself quite aside in comparison to the label`s usual alt-folk/experimental folk perspective. Yet, I shall have to accentuate the word “quite” or “relatively”. This 4-track EP comes out from the Nippon headed by such producers as Nozomi (vocals) and Takma (programming). Lots of IDM-acock rhythms are represented here which are embellished with baroque-esque milieus, electronic shoegaze-alikeness and organic electronica/jazz-y/folktronic-infiltrated evolvements. While it sometimes resembles of the Iceland`s mùm or some Efterklang`s deeds, I can perceive it as idiosyncratic on its own.
