Federico Orrù/Neeva commenced his musical experience in 1994 as dj/producer of abstract hip hop, getting closer to electronic sonorities in later years; he graduated in psychology with a thesis on the systematic relations elapsing between art, computer studies and individuals.
He refers to stylist etiquettes such as rephlex, planet mu, cock rock disco, tiger beat six; trying to find a point of contact between a more advanced experimentation and the dance floor
He has been engaged for various years in giving sound to artistic events and live sets in different productions taking place throughout the island; he collaborates with labels such as pitijamajusto (IT), joint operation (DE), artivu (SRD), custom music records (US), signorafranca (IT) and Labèl netlabel (IT).
He accompanies his experience in the musical area with digital graphics and illustrations and takes part in exhibitions in Sardinia and the peninsula.
The live sets proposed focalize on recuperating extracts of audio material; mixing advertisment messages, samplings of hard bop and funk classics, up to original productions of an abstract stamp; thus destructuring it all with bizarre and reckless editing.
The main concept underlying the works of this artist concerns the systematic analysis of the composing structure and the relation with the pubblic, tending to emphasize acoustic/structural defragmentation, keeping the listener in a familiar environment , yet isolating and unbalanced, working on the cyclic nature of the song’s form to reach an emotional structure.

Federico Orrù è Neeva. E questo disco è bellissimo. E non sai quanto ci penso è uscito da pochissimo per La Bèl Netlabel e racchiude sette tracce da farsi cascare la mandibola. Elettronica di prim’ordine. Con varie sfumature. La traccia in preview che vi ho messo mi ricorda tantissimo il mio amato Gatto Ciliegia. Ma si spazia, si vola in atmosfere… O stratosfere. Non saprei. Ottimo!

Neeva – ‘E non sai quanto ci penso’ – La Bèl netlabel (cc free download) 7/10
Il bello di questo ultimo lavoro per Neeva, non nuovo ad esperimenti in free download, è la ricerca di suoni che si discostino dal ‘classico’ schema elettronico/ambient e vadano a coprire altri campi, pur continuando a diffondere tutto attorno profumo di manipolazione elettronica. Nel caso di Federico Orrù/Neeva l’ascendente è quello dell’astrazione hip-hop con una predilizione per il taglio dei suoni e la loro iterazione durante la durata di tutta la traccia. Di formazione marcatamente hip-hop dance oriented, Neeva ha la capacità, un tempo cara a dj Ombra, di trasfigurare il suono e creare atmosfere in bilico tra il reale e l’onirico, sempre sul filo di una danza metropolitana e notturna.

Sesta produzione per La bèl netlabel che questa volta si sposta verso territori più elettronici-dance-hip-hop. L’artista in questione è il sardo Federico Orrù, in arte Neeva. Non nuovo all’ambiente netlabel ( si possono scaricare due suoi lavori sulle label Pitjamajusto e Signorafranca), Neeva inizia la sua attività musicale nel 1994 ispirandosi a etichette quali rephlex, planet mu, cock rock disco, tiger beat six. Abile manipolatore ed esploratore della materia sonora elettronica, Neeva, in questo “E non sai quanto ci penso” (mini-album di 6 brani), ci fa atterrare verso atmosfere dark-hip-hop, come nella tenebrosa e glaciale “E si rese immediatamente conto…” , o ci sa accogliere in modo misterioso nella seducente ritmica shuffle di “E allora si ritorna a casa”, dove una base in reverse accompagna una semplice melodia quasi infantile con un incedere cauto e diffidente.
Ma Neeva ci sa regalare anche momenti più ritmici e allegri come la simpatica “Federico aveva ragione”, incentrata sulla manipolazione ritmica della batteria, tra stop & go e giochi d’effetti vari (Ableton software?), o l’hit-single “Come guanti grandi su mani giganti”, atmosfera dance-hip-hop anni 90, memorizzabile dopo il primo ascolto e trasudante positività.
Interessanti le esibizioni live, alcune visibili nel suo canale YouTube. Un altro artista proveniente dalla Sardegna, regione che in questo 2010 ci ha donato molte sorprese (non dimentichiamoci “The dreams trilogy” di Ballpen, piccolo capolavoro), alcune delle quali “catturate” proprio da La bèl.

Et l’on retrouve le netlabel italien labèl, cette fois avec un disque d’abstract hip hop, downtempo, bien sympa, tranquillou, ludique et très facile d’accès, qui fait la part belle aux breakbeats et aux sonorités abstraites venues de toutes parts. Les amateurs de productions Warp/Ninja Tune tendance cool, devraient aimer ça très fort.
